The Americana Concert
The Choral Artists of Michigan are pleased to present the The Americana World Premiere Choral Festival, featuring the Young Choral Artists of Michigan, the CAM Chamber Singers, and your Choral Artists of Michigan. Unwrap the gift of joy: the shared experience of live choral music on Friday, May 29, 7:30 p.m., at the University Presbyterian Church of Rochester Hills, 1385 S Adams Rd. General Admission is $15 online before May 28 at 10 p.m., and $20 at the door.
Experience a delightful musical journey with works that feature our North American Folk Roots. We feature the Young Choral Artists of Michigan, whose vision includes experiencing the beauty of song as they develop musicianship and build community. The CAM features works from Elaine Hagenberg, Keith Hampton, Morten Lauridsen, Randall Thompson, and Sarah Quartel. We are highlighting our World Premiere Performance of Sarah Quartel’s new work, Music Always Round Me. The CAM, along with a consortium of community and college-based choruses, commissioned Sarah Quartel to compose a new work for mixed chorus, and we are pleased to present a first performance of this new work.
This concert will be professionally recorded, so we respectfully request no children ages 5 and under. Although we love these little ones, we are unable to accommodate small children.
The CAM Chamber Singers are comprised of local vocal music artists that sing professionally throughout the communities of Metro Detroit; members are drawn from the opera choristers and paid choral scholars. The Community Chorus is a choral ensemble open to community members that are passionate about the choral art. The choir enrolls a diverse membership, and they perform varied works. Both ensembles perform choral masterworks and premiere new works by living composers. The combined choirs are under the direction of Dr. Jim Watson, Artistic Director, with piano accompaniment by Hannah Watson. The CAM is served by volunteer board members, including the Artistic Director, Managing Director, and Treasurer.
This concert is supported in part by an award from the Amphion Foundation. CAM sponsors include the Rochester Conservatory of Music, Troy Metro Symphony Orchestra, and Total Family Heath of Oxford.
